Summary: At the end of “Rising” (Season 1), Original Cindy and Logan take a battered and unconscious Max back to Logan’s home. Awkward silences and reflections ensue.
The ride to Logan’s penthouse had been filled with awkward silence. In the backseat of Logan’s Aztec, Max’s battered, unconscious body was sprawled across the seat, her head carefully cradled in Original Cindy’s lap.
“What is she?” Cindy finally asked in a small voice.
Logan looked at Cindy in the rearview mirror. She was clearly unnerved by the day’s events and Max’s revelation. His gaze changed to the object of both their scrutiny: Max. Her dark curls curtained her bloody face.
He pondered the enigma called Max: transgenic; X-5; thief; messenger; almost normal girl.
Beloved.
Resolutely, he answered: “She’s Max.”
